The company celebrated its 50th anniversary in July 2000. Since the early years, with significant growth in mind, Star has been developing international markets and has used advanced precision processing technologies to their full advantage, resulting in the expansion of Star manufacturing operations worldwide. Today, 40% of all production is located outside of Japan, with Star's international markets contributing 75% of total Star consolidated turnover. Without question, Star Micronics is now a world-class multinational in the field of micro-technology.

Star began the manufacture of precision parts using automatic lathes and then progressed to the manufacture of automatic lathes themselves. The 70s saw Star move into the mechanical electronics or mechatronics markets. The Precision Products division now accounts for 10% Star turnover, with a 30% share from Machine Tools and 60% from Electronic Products. Star has therefore succeeded in embracing new levels of technology while maintaining the traditional, technological principles.

This evolution owes much to the pioneering and forward thinking spirit that epitomises Star's employees. Industry in the 21st century is expected to centre on three key areas - Information Technology (IT), globalisation and respect for the environment. The company will take full advantage of all new IT trends to maintain Star's successful advance of miniaturisation and precision technologies and to provide Star's customers with leading edge products.
